Supplementary side restraint systems
Load limiter
Above a certain level of impact severity, this mechanism fires to limit the force of the belt on the body to a tolerable level.
- After an accident, have all restraint systems checked.
- Any work on the complete system (airbags, electronic control units, wiring) or reuse on any other vehicle, even an identical one, is strictly prohibited.
- To avoid any accidental deployment that could cause injury, only qualified personnel of the Brand Network are authorized to work on the airbags.
Side airbags
This is an airbag that may be fitted to each front seat and deploys from the side of the seat (door side) to protect occupants in the event of a severe side impact.
Depending on the vehicle, a marking on the windscreen reminds you of the presence of supplementary restraint systems (airbags, pretensioners, etc.) in the passenger compartment.
Side airbag warning
- Seat covers: seats fitted with airbags require covers specific to your vehicle. Consult a Brand Representative to find out whether such covers are available. Using any other cover (or covers designed for another vehicle) could affect the correct operation of these airbags and endanger your safety.
- Do not place any accessory, object or even an animal between the seatback, the door and the interior trim. Do not cover the seatback with objects such as clothing or accessories either. This could affect the correct operation of the airbag or cause injury when it deploys.
- Any disassembly or modification of the seat and interior trim is prohibited, except by authorized personnel of the Brand Network.
- The slits on the front seatbacks (door side) correspond to the airbag deployment zone: do not insert any objects into them.
SUPPLEMENTARY RESTRAINT SYSTEMS
All the warnings below are intended to avoid obstructing airbag deployment and to prevent serious direct injury from being struck by it as it opens.
The airbag is designed to complement the action of the seat belt, and the airbag and seat belt form an inseparable part of the same protection system. It is therefore essential to wear the seat belt at all times. Not wearing the seat belt exposes occupants to increased injury in the event of an accident, and may also increase the risk of skin injuries inherent to airbag deployment itself.
Pretensioners or airbags may not deploy in a rollover or even a severe rear impact. Impacts underneath the vehicle, such as with curbs, potholes, stones, etc., may trigger these systems.
- Any work or modification on the complete airbag system (airbags, pretensioners, electronic control unit, wiring, etc.) is strictly prohibited (except by qualified personnel of the Brand Network).
- To maintain correct operation and avoid any accidental deployment, only qualified personnel of the Brand Network are authorized to work on an airbag system.
- For safety reasons, have the airbag system checked whenever the vehicle has been involved in an accident, theft or attempted theft.
- When lending or selling the vehicle, inform the new owner of these conditions by handing over this owner's and service manual.
- When scrapping the vehicle, contact a Brand Representative for the disposal of the gas generator(s).
