Quiz: how well do you know your Renault Captur?

21 questions. After each answer you get a short explanation and a link to the manual page that covers it in detail.

After replacing the battery in your Renault Captur key card, what must you do so that the 'Pile carte faible' message disappears?
Press a card button four times near the car. After reassembly, press any button on the card four times near the vehicle; the message goes out at the next start. The battery lasts about two years, and ink traces on it can cause poor contact. RENAULT card: battery

When should the coolant level be checked and where must it sit in the expansion bottle?
Cold, engine off, between MINI and MAXI. Check on level ground with the engine off and cold; top up before it reaches MINI. Never work on the cooling circuit when the engine is hot because of burn risk. Engine coolant

What is the minimum speed you can store in the Captur's speed limiter?
30 km/h. The minimum stored limited speed is 30 km/h. Note that the limiter never acts on the braking system, so it will not slow the car down by braking. Speed limiter

Towing with your Captur: what tyre pressure change and speed limit apply when the permitted overloads are used?
+0.2 bar, max 100 km/h. When exceeding the rear MMTA by up to 15% or MMAC by 10%/100 kg, speed is capped at 100 km/h and pressure raised 0.2 bar (3 PSI). Also reduce max load 10% per 1,000 m of altitude. Weights

At roughly what speed does the Captur warn you that a door or the boot is open or badly closed?
About 20 km/h. From about 20 km/h a message ('porte ouverte' or 'coffre ouvert'), a warning light and a buzzer appear. The page also explains the rear child lock lever. Opening and closing the doors

Why must you not put seat covers made for another vehicle on Captur seats with side airbags?
They could impair airbag operation. Only covers specific to your vehicle should be used, since others may affect side airbag function. Also never place objects or animals between seatback and door. Supplementary side restraint systems

You can only check tyre pressure on warm tyres. How should you interpret the readings, and what must you never do?
Add 0.2–0.3 bar to the specified value; never deflate a hot tyre. Pressures should be checked cold; if not possible, add 0.2–0.3 bar to the specified figure. Never deflate a hot tyre. The label is visible when you open the driver's door. Tyre inflation pressures

Parking a manual Captur on a steep slope, what should you do besides applying the handbrake?
Add two more clicks and engage 1st or reverse. Depending on slope or load, add at least two extra ratchet clicks and engage 1st or reverse (P for automatics). Driving with the handbrake not fully released keeps the red light on and risks overheating. Gear lever/parking brake

On the Captur's manufacturer plate, what does MTR stand for?
Gross combination weight: loaded vehicle with trailer. MTR is the Masse Totale Roulante: loaded vehicle plus trailer. Towing is forbidden if MTR is zero or blank on the plate. The plate also gives the paint code. Vehicle identification plate

What does the 'impulse mode' of the Captur's turn signal do?
Flashes three times after a half push of the stalk. If steering isn't enough to return the stalk, push it halfway and release: it returns and the indicator flashes three times. Hazards may also come on automatically under very hard braking. Horn and light signals

Which bulb type is used for the Captur's rear position/stop light?
P21/5W. Position/stop is P21/5W, indicator PY21, plate light W5W. Bulbs are under pressure and may burst when changed, so be careful. Rear and side lamps (replacing bulbs)

If the Captur's boot won't unlock, how can you open it manually from inside?
Fold rear seatbacks, push a pencil into the cavity and slide, then push the door. Access the boot by folding the rear seatback(s), insert a pencil or similar in cavity 3, slide it and push the tailgate open. Luggage compartment

Which is a mistake when cleaning your Captur's body and engine bay?
Using high-pressure cleaners on engine bay and underbody. High-pressure washers or unapproved products on mechanical parts, underbody, hinges and painted plastics risk oxidation or malfunction. Also avoid washing in full sun or in freezing weather. Body care

To move the Captur's automatic gear lever out of P, what must you do first?
Press the brake pedal, then the release button. With ignition on, press the brake before pressing release button 2. Engage D or R only when stopped, foot on brake and accelerator released. Automatic transmission

On some Captur versions an audible overspeed alarm sounds above what speed?
120 km/h. Depending on the vehicle, the alarm sounds for about 10 seconds every 30 seconds while speed exceeds 120 km/h. After a battery disconnection the on-board computer returns to its original speed unit. Displays and indicators

What does it mean when the wear bars become visible in the Captur's tyre tread?
Tread is down to about 1.6 mm and tyres must be replaced. Wear indicators are bumps in the tread; once flush, depth is at most 1.6 mm, giving poor wet grip. Kerb impacts can damage tyres and rims and upset alignment. Tyre safety - wheels

What load is permitted on the Captur's movable boot floor?
120 kg evenly spread. The movable floor takes 120 kg uniformly distributed. It has three positions: flat floor, intermediate (access to tools) and storage position for more volume. Luggage compartment fittings

If you overfill the Captur's engine oil above MAXI, what should you do?
Don't start the engine and call a dealer. Exceeding the maximum risks damage to the engine and catalytic converter. If MAX is exceeded, do not start the car and call a brand representative. Engine oil change

During run-in of a petrol Captur, what limit applies up to 1,000 km?
130 km/h or 3,000–3,500 rpm. Petrol: up to 1,000 km stay under 130 km/h or 3,000–3,500 rpm; full performance after ~3,000 km. Diesel needs 1,500 km and ~6,000 km respectively. Running-in

Using a Captur's temporary spare that differs from the other wheels, what rule applies?
Don't exceed the speed on the wheel's label and replace it soon. Use should be temporary, below the speed on the label, avoiding harsh acceleration and cornering fast. With snow chains, put the spare on the rear axle and check pressures. Puncture, spare wheel

What maximum load is allowed in the Captur's passenger storage drawer?
6 kg evenly distributed. The drawer takes 6 kg uniformly distributed, and should be closed while driving to avoid injury. Never leave objects on the driver's floor where they could slide under the pedals. Storage, cabin fittings
