Child safety: general information

~3min read

Transporting children

A child, like an adult, must be properly seated and belted for every journey. You are responsible for the children you transport.

A child is not a miniature adult.

They are exposed to specific injury risks because their muscles and bones are still growing.

The seat belt alone is not suitable for transporting a child. Use an appropriate child seat and use it correctly.

To prevent the doors from being opened, use the "Child safety" lock (refer to the paragraph "Opening and closing the doors" in chapter 1).

An impact at 50 km/h is equivalent to a fall of 10 metres. Not restraining a child is like letting them play on a fourth-floor balcony without a railing! Never hold a child in your arms. In an accident, you will not be able to hold on to them even if you are belted.

If your vehicle has been involved in a road accident, replace the child seat and have the seat belts and ISOFIX anchorages checked.

Driver's responsibility when parking or stopping the vehicle

Never leave your vehicle with a child, a dependent adult or an animal inside, even for a short time.

Indeed, they could put themselves or others in danger, for example by starting the engine, operating equipment such as the window controls, or locking the doors.

In addition, in hot and/or sunny weather, be aware that the temperature inside the passenger compartment rises very quickly.

RISK OF DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY.

Using a child seat

The level of protection provided by a child seat depends on its ability to restrain your child and on how it is installed.

Incorrect installation compromises the child's protection in the event of sudden braking or an impact.

Before buying a child seat, check that it complies with the regulations of the country you are in and that it fits in your vehicle.

Consult a Brand Representative to find out which seats are recommended for your vehicle.

Before fitting a child seat, read its instructions and follow them.

If you experience difficulties during installation, contact the equipment manufacturer.

Keep the instructions with the seat.

Set an example by fastening your own seat belt, and teach your child:

  • to fasten it correctly,
  • to get in and out on the side away from traffic.

Do not use a used child seat or one without an instruction manual.

Make sure that no objects in or near the child seat prevent its installation.

Never leave a child unattended in the vehicle.

Make sure your child is always restrained and that the harness or seat belt is correctly adjusted and fitted. Avoid thick clothing, which creates slack in the straps.

Do not let your child put their head or arms out of the window.

Check that the child keeps a correct posture throughout the journey, especially when sleeping.
