CONDITIONS FOR APPLYING THE CHECKS DEFINED IN THIS DIAGNOSIS

The checks defined in this diagnosis should only be carried out on the vehicle when the fault bargraph is steadily on, indicating that the fault is present on the vehicle at the time of the check.

Only a computer fault requires replacing the computer, whether the bargraph is steady or flashing.

If the fault is not present but simply stored, the bargraph flashes and applying the checks recommended in the diagnosis will not locate the origin of the stored fault. In this case, only a check of the wiring and connectors of the component concerned must be carried out (the relevant wiring can be activated in diagnostic mode to try to obtain a steady bargraph light).

ESSENTIAL TOOLS FOR WORK ON THE AIRBAG SYSTEM AND SEAT BELT PRETENSIONERS:

  • XR 25 tester (with XR25 cartridge No. 16 minimum).

  • XRBAG tester at update level No. 3 (with the new measuring cable and its adapters, as well as the 30-pin adapter for work on the computer connector).

REMINDERS:

When working on airbag/seat belt pretensioner systems, it is imperative to lock the computer using the XR25 G80* command to prevent any risk of accidental deployment (all firing lines will be inhibited). This operating mode is indicated by the warning light on the dashboard lighting up.

Never measure the airbag and pretensioner firing lines with any device other than the XRBAG.

Before using an inert igniter, make sure its resistance is between 1.8 and 2.5 ohms.

Only computers with 30-pin connectors and airbag function(s) can be diagnosed using the XR25 tester. Computers with the pretensioner function only must be checked with the XRBAG following the checks described in the diagnosis.

Switch the ignition off, then back on, to extinguish the warning light after erasing the fault memory with the G0** command.
