Starting and stopping the engine

Starting the engine
RENAULT card with remote control
When you get into the vehicle, insert the RENAULT card fully into card reader 2.
To start, press button 1. If a gear is engaged, press the clutch pedal until the engine starts.

RENAULT card in hands-free mode
The RENAULT card must be in card reader 2 or in detection zone 3.
To start, press the brake or clutch pedal and press button 1. If a gear is engaged, only pressing the clutch pedal will start the engine.
Starting the vehicle
- For vehicles with automatic gearbox, move the selector lever to position P.
- If one of the starting conditions is not met, the message "Press brake + START", "Depress clutch + START" or "Put in P" is displayed on the instrument panel.
- In some cases, you will need to turn the steering wheel while pressing start button 1 to help unlock the steering column; the message "Turn steering wheel + START" will warn you.
Special case: when starting the engine in very low outside temperatures (below -10 °C): keep the clutch pedal depressed until the engine starts.
Starting with boot open (hands-free mode)
If the card is in the boot, starting is impossible unless a RENAULT "hands-free" card is inside the passenger compartment.

Accessory function (ignition on)
As soon as you access your vehicle, some features are available (radio, navigation, wipers...).
To use the other features:
- vehicles equipped with a RENAULT card with remote control: insert the card into reader 2;
- vehicles fitted with a RENAULT "hands-free" card: card inside the passenger compartment or inserted in card reader 2, press button 1 without pressing the pedals.
Note: if a card is in the reader, pressing button 1 starts the engine.
Driver's responsibility
Never leave your vehicle with the RENAULT card inside and a child (or an animal) left in it, even for a short time.
The child could endanger themselves or others by starting the engine, operating equipment such as the power windows, or locking the doors.
Risk of serious injury.
Malfunction
In some cases, the RENAULT "hands-free" card may not work:
- wear of the RENAULT card battery, discharged vehicle battery...
- close to a device operating on the same frequency (screen, mobile phone, video games...);
- vehicle located in an area with strong electromagnetic radiation.
The message "Insert the card" appears on the instrument panel.
Insert the RENAULT card fully into card reader 2.

Engine stop conditions
The vehicle must be stationary, with the lever in N or P for vehicles with automatic gearbox.
RENAULT remote-control card
Card in reader 2, press button 1: the engine stops. In this case, removing the card from the reader locks the steering column.
Special feature
If the card is no longer in the reader when you request engine stop, the message "Card absent, press and hold" appears on the instrument panel: press button 1 for more than two seconds.
RENAULT card in hands-free mode
Card in the vehicle, press button 1: the engine stops. The steering column locks when the driver's door is opened or when the vehicle is locked.
If the card is no longer inside the passenger compartment when you request engine stop, the message "Card absent, press and hold" appears on the instrument panel: press button 1 for more than two seconds.
Note: the lights and accessories (radio...) continue to operate after the engine is stopped.
When the driver's door is opened, the accessories switch off.
When you leave your vehicle, especially with the RENAULT card on you, make sure the engine is switched off.
Driver's responsibility
Never leave your vehicle with the RENAULT card inside and a child (or an animal) left in it, even for a short time.
The child could start the vehicle or operate electrical equipment (window lifters, etc.) and risk trapping a part of the body (neck, arm, hand, etc.).
Risk of serious injury.
Never switch off the ignition before the vehicle has come to a complete stop. Stopping the engine cancels power assistance (brakes, steering, etc.) and passive safety systems such as airbags and pretensioners.
