Variable assist steering
The variable-assistance power steering has an electronic control system that adjusts the level of assistance according to vehicle speed.
The steering is lighter when manoeuvring for parking (for greater comfort), while the effort increases progressively as speed increases (for better safety at high speed).
Do not hold the steering wheel at full lock against the stop when stationary.
Operating faults
The steering may become heavy while driving or during repeated steering wheel manoeuvres. This is due to overheating of the power steering. In this case, allow it to cool down.
With the engine off or if the system fails, the steering wheel can still be turned. More effort will be required.
Never switch off the engine on a downhill slope or, in general, while driving (power steering assistance will be lost).Test yourself
