Operation
I - SIMPLE OPERATION
When the immobiliser system is operational, the immobiliser red warning lamp flashes. The electric steering column lock is locked:
- When the Start button or the brake pedal is pressed, the passenger compartment central unit interrogates the badge holder.
- The badge holder receives the code from the inserted badge and transmits it to the passenger compartment central unit.
- If the code is authenticated by the passenger compartment central unit, it sends a coded signal to the electric steering column lock via the multiplex network.
- If the coded signal received by the electric steering column lock matches the one stored in memory, the lock releases the steering column and sends a confirmation message to the passenger compartment central unit.
- When the passenger compartment central unit receives this message, it sets the "driving" power supply and turns off the immobiliser red warning lamp.
- When the "driving" power supply is set, the passenger compartment central unit and the injection ECU send coded signals to each other via the multiplex network.
- If the signals sent by the passenger compartment central unit and those sent by the injection ECU match, the passenger compartment central unit allows the engine to start and the injection is unlocked.
1 - Special cases
- If the injection ECU or the electric steering column lock has no reference code in memory, the code sent is stored in memory.
- If the codes do not match, the system remains locked. The immobiliser red warning lamp flashes or stays on, and messages are displayed on the instrument panel. See warning lamp table.
- If the passenger compartment central unit is blank, the immobiliser warning lamp stays off.
When the battery is weakly charged, the voltage drop caused by the starter motor being activated may reactivate the immobiliser. If the voltage is too low, starting is impossible, even when pushing the vehicle.

II - "HANDS-FREE" OPERATION
When the immobiliser system is operational, the immobiliser red warning lamp flashes. The electric steering column lock is locked:
- When the start button is pressed, the vehicle interrogates the card via the starting antennas (125 kHz).
- the card responds at a frequency of 433 MHz or 315 MHz (depending on country).
- The card code is received by the passenger compartment central unit.
- If the code is authenticated by the passenger compartment central unit, it sends a coded signal to the electric steering column lock via the multiplex network.
- If the coded signal received by the electric lock is identical to the one stored in its memory, the electric lock releases the steering column and sends a confirmation message to the passenger compartment central unit.
- When the passenger compartment central unit receives the message from the steering column electric lock, it switches on the "circulation" power supply and turns off the immobiliser red warning light.
- The "hands-free" card operates using a battery.
If the battery fails, the card can be placed in the card holder. The vehicle operates as a "standard" vehicle (without the "hands-free" function).
- If the injection ECU or the electric steering column lock has no reference code in memory, the code sent is stored in memory.
- If the codes do not match, the system remains locked. The immobiliser red warning lamp flashes or stays on, and messages are displayed on the instrument panel. See warning lamp table.
- If the passenger compartment central unit is blank (not programmed), the immobiliser warning light flashes.
When the battery is weakly charged, the voltage drop caused by the starter motor being activated may reactivate the immobiliser. If the voltage is too low, starting is impossible, even when pushing the vehicle.

III - CONDITIONS REQUIRED TO START THE ENGINE
1 - Features of the "standard" system
- Card in the card holder,
- Transponder (built into the card holder), steering column electric lock and injection ECU authenticated,
- Clutch pedal released or brake pedal depressed and manual gearbox in neutral,
- Brake pedal depressed and automatic gearbox in "Neutral" or "Park" position.
2 - Features of the "hands-free" system
- Card in the starting zone,
- Card, steering column electric lock and injection ECU authenticated,
- Clutch pedal released or brake pedal depressed and manual gearbox in neutral,
- Brake pedal depressed and automatic gearbox in "Neutral" or "Park" position.
