Front side door
Replacing this part is a basic operation for a side collision. Removing and refitting is a supplementary operation to replacing the body shell.
The method below covers the following operations:
- for removing and refitting the complete door,
- for its complete replacement.
NOTE: All body gap specifications are given in section 40A-E.
REPLACEMENT PART CONTENTS
Part supplied with soundproofing panels.

NOTE: It is advised to order in addition a set of clips, available from the spare parts store.
1. DOOR REMOVAL AND REFITTING
This operation can be carried out by one person using the door support tool.
RENAULT approval no.: 661000
Supplier: Z INTERNATIONAL
Reference: SUP 01
Otherwise, this operation requires two operators.
REMOVAL

NOTE: When the door is to be refitted to the same body shell without replacement, it is preferable to remove it using the fixings (A) so as not to change the settings.
Disconnect:
- the battery,
- the door harness connector.
Remove:
- the door check strap fixing bolt,
- the four door hinge bolts (A).
INSTALLATION
Refit in the reverse order of removal.
Make the adjustments following the instructions described at the end of this section.
WARNING:
Connect the battery; carry out the necessary relearns (see chapter 8).
Before final refitting, the seal between the front pillar and the hinges must be remade using filler sealant (see Technical Note 396A).
2. DOOR TRIM REMOVAL AND REFITTING
The order of operations described below is specific to replacing the door.
For the specifics of removing each part fixed to the door, refer to the respective sections (example: window regulator mechanism, see section 51A).
NOTE:
Trim removal operations can be carried out on the vehicle before removing the door.
REMOVAL
Carry out the trim removal operations in the following order.
Remove:
- the mirror
- the window
- the interior trim panel
- the outer door handle
- the door lock
- the inner lower door sill trim
- the outer lower door sill trim
- the outer door opening seal
- the outer moulding
a. Removing the mirror

Pull off the interior mirror cover by hand.

Disconnect the connector.
Remove fixing (B), then release the mirror.
b. Removing the window

Protect the trim panel (for example, with a putty knife), and using the clip removal pliers, unclip the window regulator bracket (at the rear).
Disconnect its connectors.

Unclip the storage tray.
WARNING:
This operation must be carried out without pulling on the access flap.

Unclip the pull handle cover.
Disconnect the mirror control connector.

Remove the cover and the two screws (C) of the interior door release handle.

Remove the cover and the screw (D) of the door opening control.

Unclip the cover for the opening control cable fixing using a flat-bladed screwdriver.

Unclip the upper trim access flap using clip removal pliers (protecting the trim panel).
Open the flap and hold it open using masking tape.

Position the window so that the two fixing clips (E) and (E') are accessible.
Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, hold the lug (F) of clip (E) apart and simultaneously pull the window upwards.
Carry out the same operation for clip (E').
NOTE: To make clip (E') accessible, unclip the speaker grille.

Remove the window.
c. Removing the interior door trim panel

Disconnect the lock connector and the two connectors of the handle module (if equipped with hands-free function).
Remove the screws (G).
NOTE: The window regulator motor and the harness are attached to the trim panel.

Lift the trim panel upward (arrow 1).
Pull it away to release the window regulator drive carriers from the door shell at the bottom (arrow 2).
Pull the trim panel downward (arrow 3).

Disconnect the front pillar connector.
Release the harness clip (H) from the door shell.
Remove the assembly "trim panel - window regulator motor - harness".
d. Removing the exterior door handle

Remove the cover plug.
Using a hook (locally made), release the retaining plate from the lock cylinder.

Remove the lock cylinder.
Specific to vehicles equipped with the "hands-free" function

Disconnect:
- the male connector of the opening button,
- the female connector of the handle module.

Remove the exterior door handle.

CAUTION: On versions equipped with the "hands-free" function, take care not to damage the connector during removal.
e. Removing the door lock

Remove:
- the three lock mounting screws,
- the lock.

IMPORTANT: On vehicles equipped with the "hands-free" function, operations (d) and (e) must be carried out at the same time as removing the interior door trim panel, and the lock assembly must be left in the interior trim panel during removal.
f. Removing the interior lower door sealing strip

Remove the sealing strip using tool Car. 1363.
h. Removing the exterior lower door sealing strip
Proceed in the same way as for the interior sealing strip.
g. Removing the exterior door frame seal

Remove the seal from the front guide channel (I).
Carefully unclip the door frame seal.
i. Removing the exterior trim strip

Insert tool Car. 1597 (lever) then carefully pry the trim strip away from the door panel.
Remove the trim strip following arrow 2.
3. ADJUSTMENT
Adjustment zones

Specific to the upper hinge attachment

During repair, to allow flush adjustment, the original indexing pins (A) must be replaced with screws (B), available from the spare parts store.
NOTE: The upper holes of the original hinges must be enlarged to obtain more adjustment.
Aftermarket hinges are supplied with square slots.
Adjustment procedure
Remove the striker before adjusting via the hinges.

It is advisable to start adjustments at the hinge-to-door shell attachments (C). Adjust the gap and the height.

Fore-and-aft adjustment is made by turning the hinge-to-front pillar screws (D). These screws also allow height adjustment.
This operation requires an offset wrench to avoid removing the front fender.
Check the adjustments and tighten in position.
Specific to the striker plate

The striker plate is spot-welded at point (E) to the reinforcement inside the center pillar.
For adjustment operations, the fusible sections (D) of the plate must be deformed.
This can only be done by applying a fairly high force to the striker (for example with a hammer).

Striker adjustment consists of setting the rear door gap, the striking and the closing effort.
To do this, loosen the striker screws and move the striker in the direction of the arrows.
Check the adjustment and tighten the door in position.
4. PASSIVE SAFETY

CAUTION: At the end of the operation, check the presence and condition of the anti-override (H).
REMINDER: The function of this part is essential in a frontal collision. The anti-override keeps the door in its plane, so the door effectively contributes to absorbing the impact energy.

CAUTION: On 3-door vehicles, check the presence and condition of the additional anti-override fitted at the lower part.
