INTRODUCTION

WARNING:

The Mégane II can only be diagnosed with the CLIP diagnostic tool fitted with the new vehicle link lead - probe (Part number: Elé 1674 or 00 00 167 400).

Multiplexed network definition:

The multiplexed network consists of two twisted wires connected to several vehicle control modules. These two wires are called CAN H and CAN L.

Two of the control modules contain an internal 120 Ω resistor (terminating resistor):

  • the Airbag control module
  • the Injection control module

The data information exchanged by the control modules travels over this network.

The Mégane II is a new-generation multiplexed vehicle, the main change being the increase in communication speed to 500 kBaud.

On the Mégane II, only one multiplexed network that can be diagnosed with the RENAULT tool is present, and the number of control modules is 15.

NOTE: A second multiplexed network, dedicated to navigation, may be present.

OBJECTIVE:

  • The objective of the multiplexed network test is to identify the various control modules present on the vehicle's multiplexed network and to determine the cause of any inter-module communication faults.
  • It also makes it possible to identify the functions present on the vehicle, which are sometimes hosted on several control modules (distributed functions).
  • The test checks the condition of the multiplexed network segments.
  • The multiplexed network test also allows diagnosis of control modules that are off the multiplexed network, giving an overall view of the vehicle's electronic architecture.

MULTIPLEXED NETWORK OPERATION CHECK

Vehicle ECU power supply for diagnosis: Vehicle card on the card holder.

Press and hold the "start" button (more than 5 seconds) when starting conditions are not met (for example: a gear engaged).

Connect the diagnostic tool and carry out the required operations.

Warning: To power the Xenon lamp control modules, switch on the dipped headlights.

This step is the essential starting point before any control module diagnosis.

It ensures that the network is properly connected and continuous at the terminals of each control module and that information is correctly transmitted and received. On the Mégane II, this function also reads the number of faults present in the control modules.

The "Multiplexed network test" function runs automatically after the user selects the vehicle.

Once the network check is complete, the other functions become accessible.

MULTIPLEXED NETWORK TEST PROCEDURE:

  • Establish communication with the control modules holding the vehicle configuration (reading the identification).
  • Reading of the vehicle configuration in the two modules holding the multiplexed network configuration (Airbag control module and Passenger Compartment Unit on MEGANE II)
  • Reading of the list of diagnosable control modules in the two holding modules
  • Querying the control modules
  • Physical (electrical) measurements on the CAN network.

CONTROL MODULES:

  • Valid: green outline, green text.
  • Not detected: red outline, red text.
  • Not diagnosable: black outline, black text.
  • Not recognised: red outline, red text + exclamation mark.

SEGMENTS:

  • Valid: green line.
  • Faulty: red line.
  • Not diagnosed: black line.

Interpreting the test result tables

In the "Faults" tab, the control modules are classified in the following categories:

  • "Not detected", when the control module did not respond to the tool's identification request.
  • Within the "not detected" category, control modules are classified as "Containing the multiplexed network configuration" or "Not containing the multiplexed network configuration".
  • "Not recognised", when the control module was detected but its response does not allow it to be identified.

In the "Information" tab, the control modules are classified and defined as:

  • "Not diagnosable", when the control module cannot be diagnosed by the tool and is therefore not queried.
  • "Valid", when the control module has correctly responded to the tool's request.

If you click the "continue" icon in the lower right corner, a new screen appears with the following tab: In the "Results" tab, the control modules are classified in the following categories:

  • "With fault", when the control module has been recognised and has a non-zero number of faults.
  • "No fault", when the control module has been detected, recognised and has no faults.
  • "Not recognised", when the control module has been detected but its response does not allow it to be identified.
  • "Not detected", when the control module does not respond even though it is diagnosable.

FUNCTION TEST

The vehicle function test screen is presented in the same way as the multiplexed network test, with a diagram of the network architecture if it is known and displayed.

In the "Function" tab, you will find the various control modules that take part in the functions, whether distributed across several modules or not.

The "Info" tab lists the other possible functions applicable to the vehicle concerned.

Selecting a function in the function list greys out the control modules that do not take part in that function on the diagram.

The "Diagnose" button opens the diagnosis of the function when one of them is selected in the function list.
