Proper Driving Practices
- Never move the shift lever from P (Park) or N (Neutral) to any other position while the accelerator pedal is depressed.
- Never shift the shift lever to P (Park) while the vehicle is moving.
- Make sure the vehicle is completely stopped before attempting to shift into R (Reverse) or D (Drive).
- Do not shift the shift lever to N (Neutral) while driving. This may cause an accident due to loss of engine braking, and the transmission may be damaged.
- Do not drive with your foot resting on the brake pedal. Even light but constant pressure on the pedal may cause the brakes to overheat, wear prematurely, and possibly even fail.
- Pressing the accelerator and brake pedals at the same time may activate engine output reduction logic to slow the vehicle. Vehicle acceleration will resume after the brake pedal is released.
- When driving in manual shift mode, reduce vehicle speed before downshifting. Otherwise, the downshift may not engage if the engine speed is outside the allowable range.
- Always apply the parking brake when leaving the vehicle. Do not rely on shifting the transmission to P (Park) to keep the vehicle from moving.
- Exercise extreme caution when driving on slippery surfaces. Be especially careful when braking, accelerating, or shifting gears. On slippery surfaces, a sudden change in vehicle speed may cause the drive wheels to lose traction with the road, which may result in loss of vehicle control and an accident.
- Optimum vehicle performance and fuel economy are achieved by pressing and releasing the accelerator pedal smoothly.
Information - Kickdown Mechanism
Use the kickdown mechanism for maximum acceleration. Depress the accelerator pedal beyond the detent point. The automatic transmission will downshift depending on engine speed.
WARNING
If your vehicle is stuck in snow, mud, sand, etc., you may try to rock the vehicle by shifting it back and forth between forward and reverse. Do not attempt this procedure if people or objects are anywhere near the vehicle. While rocking, the vehicle may suddenly move forward or backward as it frees itself, which may cause injury to, or damage to, nearby people or objects.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:
- ALWAYS wear your seat belt. In a crash, an unbelted passenger is much more likely to be seriously injured or killed than a properly belted passenger.
- Avoid high speeds when driving through curves or turns.
- Do not make sudden steering movements, such as quick lane changes or rapid, sharp turns.
- The risk of rollover increases significantly if you lose control of your vehicle at highway speeds.
- Loss of control often occurs when two or more wheels slide off the paved surface and the driver steers to return to the road.
- If your vehicle leaves the paved surface, do not steer sharply. Instead, brake gently before returning to the lane.
- HYUNDAI recommends observing all posted speed limits.
Starting on a Steep Uphill Slope
To drive up a steep slope from a standstill, depress the brake pedal and shift the shift lever to D (Drive). Gradually depress the accelerator pedal while releasing the service brake.
