Removal

Side Impact Pressure Sensor

  • Removal of the airbag must be performed in accordance with the precautions/procedures described earlier.
  • Before disconnecting the side impact sensor connector(s), disconnect the side airbag connector(s).
  • Do not turn the ignition ON or connect the battery cable when replacing the side impact sensor.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least three minutes before starting work.
  2. Remove the front door trim panel. (Refer to Body - "Front Door Trim")
  3. Disconnect the pressure side impact sensor connector (B) and remove the pressure side impact sensor (A).
  4. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least three minutes before starting work.
  5. Remove the door scuff plate. (Refer to Body - "Interior Trim")
  6. Remove the center pillar trim. (Refer to Body - "Interior Trim")
  7. Disconnect the side impact sensor connector (A).
  8. Loosen the side impact sensor mounting bolt and remove the side impact sensor (B).

Installation

Side Impact Pressure Sensor

  1. Install a new pressure-type side impact sensor using the screws, then connect the pressure-type side impact sensor connector.

    Tightening torque: 7.8 ~ 9.8 N·m

    • Be sure to use the specified screws.
  2. Install the front door trim panel. (Refer to Body - "Front Door Trim Panel")
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.
  4. After installing the pressure side impact sensor, check that the system operates correctly:
    A. Turn the ignition ON; the SRS indicator should illuminate for approximately six seconds, then turn off.
    • You must observe the specified tightening torques with the specified tool, as the pressure-type side impact sensors (P-SIS) may be damaged or the POP-NUT may rotate.
    • Durability problems may occur with the P-SIS, or impact detection performance may deteriorate if the POP-NUT is rotated.
    • The door module must not be deformed, because the SRSCM detects impact through the pressure sensor in the door module.
Side Impact Gravity Sensor
  • Do not turn the ignition ON or connect the battery cable when replacing the side impact sensor.
  1. Install a new side impact sensor with the bolt, then connect the side impact sensor connector.

    Tightening torque: 7.8 ~ 9.8 N·m

  2. Install the center pillar trim. (Refer to Body - "Interior Trim")
  3. Install the door scuff plate. (Refer to Body - "Interior Trim")
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.
  5. After installing the side impact sensor, check that the system operates correctly:
    A. Turn the ignition ON; the SRS indicator should illuminate for approximately six seconds, then turn off.
