SRS Control Module (SRSCM) Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The main purpose of the SRSCM (Supplemental Restraint System Control Module) is to distinguish between events that require deployment of the restraint system and events that do not. The SRSCM must decide whether to use the restraint system or not. After determining that pretensioner and/or airbag deployment is required, the SRSCM must supply sufficient power to the pretensioners and airbag inflators to initiate deployment. The SRSCM determines that an impact may require deployment of the pretensioners and airbags based on data received from the impact sensors and other components in combination with the safing function. The SRSCM will not be ready to detect a malfunction or activate the restraint devices until the signals in the SRSCM circuit stabilize. The SRSCM may activate the restraint devices in approximately 2 seconds, but full function is guaranteed only after confirmation is complete. The SRSCM must perform a self-diagnostic procedure and illuminate the system ready indicator when the ignition is turned on. The system must perform continuous diagnostic procedures and alert the driver of a malfunction through the warning lamp if a malfunction is detected. The serial diagnostic communication interface will be used to facilitate service of the restraint control system.
