Airbags are not designed to deploy in every collision. There are certain types of crashes in which the airbag cannot provide additional protection. These include rear impacts, second or third impacts in multiple-impact collisions, and low-speed impacts. Vehicle damage indicates the crash energy absorbed and is not an indicator of whether the airbag should deploy.
