TOWING

General recommendations
- Towing eyes are located at the front and rear, on the right side under the bumpers.
- Access to the front towing eye is gained by swinging the front grille panel open. To do this, press the panel partition in the direction of the arrow (see illustration). - A tow rope (soft tow) or a rigid tow bar must be attached only to these towing eyes.
- For a soft tow, it is best to use a synthetic fiber rope. This reduces the risk of damage to the vehicle during towing.
The most reliable towing method is with a rigid tow bar. Towing must be carried out smoothly, without jerking or excessive loads on the towing equipment. This is especially important when towing on roads without a hard surface. A tow rope can easily break.
Before starting the engine with a tow, first try starting it from the battery of another vehicle. See the previous section.
Starting the Engine by Towing
To do this:
- Select 2nd or 3rd gear in advance.
- Switch the ignition on.
- As soon as the engine starts by towing, depress the clutch and shift to neutral to avoid running into the towing vehicle.
- If the catalytic converter is hot, starting the engine by towing over a long distance is not recommended. Unburned fuel may enter the catalytic converter, ignite and damage it.
