Accessories

~2min read

When using accessories (e.g. bicycle carriers), you must observe certain points.

Principe de la répartition des charges des accessoires

Fig. 199 Principle of accessory load distribution

The maximum permissible distance between the accessory and the towball must not exceed 700 mm.

The maximum permissible total weight (including the mounting system and load) is 75 kg.

The maximum load depends on the centre of gravity.

The greater the distance of the load's centre of gravity from the towball (1), the lower the permissible total weight.

The following values are permitted: for a distance of 300 mm, a total weight (including mounting system) (A) of 75 kg.

For a distance of 600 mm, a total weight (including mounting system) (B) of 35 kg.

Only bicycle carriers on which a maximum of three bicycles can be mounted are permitted.

Using accessories on the towing device

Audi recommends using only accessories on the towball (such as bicycle carriers) that are approved by Audi. If you wish to use other accessories, make sure they are approved by the manufacturer for use on the towball. The towing device may be damaged if you use unsuitable accessories. Under extreme loads, this may cause the towing device to break

CAUTION!

  • If you do not use accessories approved by Audi, make sure they can be used on Audi vehicles.
  • Using unsuitable accessories may cause considerable damage to the towball, which may lead to the towing device breaking while towing a trailer - risk of accident!
  • Do not use any tools or aids to remove or fit the towball. You could damage the locking mechanism and compromise the safety of the towing device - risk of accident!
