Towing a trailer requires great caution.

Weight distribution

The vehicle empty / trailer loaded configuration is the most unfavourable in terms of weight distribution. If you cannot avoid this configuration, drive very slowly!

Speed

The directional stability of a car with a trailer decreases as speed increases. Therefore, do not drive at the maximum permitted speeds if road conditions, weather or wind strength are unfavourable. This applies in particular on downhill gradients.

In any case, reduce your speed immediately as soon as you notice the slightest yawing movement of the trailer.

Do NOT try to "straighten out" the combination by accelerating.

Brake sufficiently early. If the trailer has overrun brakes, brake gently at first and then more firmly. This avoids jerking during braking caused by the trailer wheels locking. Downshift sufficiently early before a downhill gradient to make use of engine braking.

Pitching and rolling movements can be reduced by additional stabilisers. We recommend fitting such stabilisers if you are towing heavy loads.

To obtain and fit them, contact an Audi dealership.

Overheating

Monitor the coolant temperature warning light if, in very hot weather, you have to climb a gradient for a prolonged period in a low gear and at high engine speed. If the needle of the gauge reaches the right-hand part of the scale, reduce your speed immediately. If the corresponding warning lightflashes in the instrument cluster,
stop and let the engine cool for a few minutes while it runs at idle speed.
