Sleep / wake-up of the VAN network control modules
To reduce the electrical consumption of the control modules, their power supply may be interrupted.
Note: CAN network control modules are no longer powered when +APC disappears. The CAN network control modules are powered when +APC appears.
The BSI manages the sleep and wake-up of the control modules (by extension, the sleep or wake-up of the network). The consequences are transparent to the user and during diagnosis with the diagnostic tool.

The diagram below shows a typical control module and its external power supplies, as well as an external actuator capable of waking up the network (example: hazard warning light pushbutton).

Power supply of woken networks
The +VAN from the BSI supplies the power switching stage of the control modules. The permanent + is switched and can then supply the various electronic stages of the control modules.
Note: Not all control modules are supplied with a permanent +.
The power supply is then made directly from +VAN.
Power supply of networks in sleep mode
When the networks are in sleep mode, the BSI interrupts the +VAN of the control modules. The power switching stage of the control modules is no longer supplied. The permanent + can no longer supply the electronic stages of the control modules. The electronic stages of the control modules are no longer supplied, and their electrical consumption is zero. The BSI sets the electrical potential of DATA B to 12 volts. The BSI also goes into sleep mode.
Conditions for network sleep
The networks go to sleep one minute after the conditions are met.

Degraded mode
In the event of a short circuit between DATA B and ground, the information on DATA B is interpreted by the BSI as a network wake-up request. This is why, after six unjustified sleep and wake-up attempts, the BSI forces the network to sleep. +VAN disappears and reappears with +APC.
Conditions for network wake-up
An action on the actuator causes a current draw on the DATA B link. The BSI interprets this current draw. The BSI then re-powers +VAN. The control modules become functional again.
Not all external actuators connected to the control modules have the ability to wake up the network.
CONTROL MODULES WAKING UP THE VAN NETWORKS |
Com 2000 via the high-frequency receiver (location, locking/unlocking, window lifting), parking light request, optical call and horn.
Anti-theft alarm ECU.
Instrument cluster via the hazard warning button.
Car radio via its on/off button.
An action on an external BSI actuator wakes up the network. The BSI then re-powers the ECUs on the + van line.

Note: Network wake-up and sleep are simultaneous for all ECUs.
