- When replacing a blown fuse, always use a replacement fuse of the correct rating that matches the original fuse. Never replace a fuse with one of a higher rating. Never replace a blown fuse with metal wire or any other material. Do not install a fuse inside a circuit breaker cavity or vice versa. Failure to use the correct fuses may result in serious injury, fire, and/or property damage.
- Before replacing a fuse, make sure the ignition is off and all other systems are off and/or disconnected.
- If the replaced fuse blows again, contact an authorized dealer.
- If a fuse protecting safety systems (airbag system, brake system), powertrain systems (engine system, transmission system), or the steering system blows, contact an authorized dealer.
Fuses protect electrical systems from excessive current.
When a device does not operate, check the fuse element inside the blade fuse for an open circuit or melt.
Also note that using electrical outlets for an extended period with the engine off may discharge the vehicle battery.
