Engine Oil
Engine Oil Selection - 3.6 L and 5.7 L Engines
For best performance and maximum protection under all operating conditions, the manufacturer recommends only engine oils certified by API and meeting the requirements of Material Standard MS-6395.
NOTE:
EMI engines may tick immediately after starting and then go quiet after about 30 seconds. This is normal and will not harm the engine. This condition may be caused by short driving cycles, for example, if the vehicle is started and then shut off after driving a short distance. After restarting, you may hear a ticking noise. Other causes may be the vehicle not being used for a long period of time, incorrect oil, extended oil change intervals, or prolonged idling. If the engine continues to tick or the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminates, contact your nearest authorized dealer.
American Petroleum Institute (API) Engine Oil Symbol
This symbol indicates that the oil is certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API). Only engine oils certified by API are recommended by the manufacturer.
This symbol certifies engine oils 0W-20, 5W-20, 0W-30, 5W-30, and 10W-30.
Synthetic Engine Oils
You may use synthetic engine oils if the recommended oil quality requirements, oil change intervals, and filter change intervals are followed.
Synthetic engine oils that do not have the engine oil certification symbol and the correct SAE viscosity grade number must not be used.
Additives in Engine Oil
The manufacturer strongly recommends against adding any additives (other than leak detection dyes) to the engine oil. Engine oil is an engineered product and its performance may be impaired by additional additives.
Used Engine Oil and Oil Filter Disposal
Use care when disposing of used engine oil and oil filters from your vehicle. Used oil and oil filters improperly discarded can be harmful to the environment. Contact an authorized dealer, service station, or government agency for advice on how and where to safely dispose of used oil and oil filters in your area.
