Jacking Instructions
- Always park on a firm, level surface as far from the edge of the roadway as possible before raising the vehicle.
- Turn on the hazard warning flashers.
- Firmly apply the parking brake and place the automatic transmission in PARK.
- Chock the wheel diagonally opposite the wheel being raised.
- Never start the engine while the vehicle is supported on the jack.
- Do not allow anyone to remain in the vehicle while it is supported on the jack.
- Do not get under the vehicle while it is supported only by the jack. If you must get under a raised vehicle, take it to a service center where it can be raised on a hoist.
- Use the jack only at the specified locations and only to raise this vehicle during tire changing.
- If you are working on or near the roadway, be extremely cautious of traffic.
- To ensure stored spare tires, whether deflated or inflated, are securely stowed, place the spare tire with the valve stem facing down.

Correct placement of the front and rear jacking points is critical. Refer to the following illustrations for the correct jack placement.

- Remove the spare tire, jack, wheel wedges, and lug wrench.
NOTE:
When the following label is present, the spare tire must be used for rear wheels only. If a front tire is flat, first install the spare tire on one of the rear wheels. Then follow the front wheel tire change instructions and replace the front wheel with the wheel removed from the rear of the vehicle.

- On aluminum wheels with a center cap that covers the lug nuts, use the lug wrench to carefully pry off the center cap before raising the vehicle.
- Before raising the vehicle, use the lug wrench to loosen, but do not remove, the lug nuts on the flat tire. Turn the lug nuts counterclockwise one turn while the wheel is still on the ground.
- Position the jack under the jacking point nearest the flat tire. Turn the jack screw clockwise to firmly engage the jack saddle with the jacking point.
NOTE:
If the vehicle is too low to position the jack, slide the jack sideways and turn it to the correct position.

- Raise the vehicle only far enough to remove the flat tire and install the spare tire.
- Remove the lug nuts and the tire.
- Install the spare tire.

NOTE:
On vehicles equipped with this type of wheel, do not attempt to install the center cap or wheel cover on the compact spare tire.
- Install the lug nuts with the tapered end of the lug nut facing the wheel. Tighten the lug nuts lightly.
- Lower the vehicle to the ground by turning the jack handle counterclockwise.
- Complete tightening the lug nuts. Press down on the lug wrench at the end of the handle to increase leverage. Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern, tightening each lug nut twice. If you are unsure of proper tightness, have them checked with a torque wrench at an authorized dealer or service station.
- Remove the wheel wedges, jack, tools, and flat tire. Make sure the jack base faces the front of the vehicle before tightening the fasteners.
