Starting and driving

Operating conditions

Cold start

On short journeys and repeated cold starts, the engine does not reach its optimum operating temperature. This results in a considerable increase in both fuel consumption (by +15 to +30% in city traffic) and pollutant emissions.

Traffic situations and road conditions

Heavy traffic is associated with particularly high fuel consumption, for example when driving in a queue with mainly low gears engaged, or in cities with many traffic lights.

Winding roads, mountain roads and driving on uneven ground also have a negative effect on fuel consumption.

Stops in traffic

If you have to wait for a longer time (e.g. at railway crossings), it is recommended to switch off the engine.
