Starting and driving

Starting the engine

Do not warm up the engine at idle or at high revs with the vehicle stationary. Under these conditions the engine warms up much more slowly, with higher fuel consumption and more emissions. It is advisable to drive off immediately at low speed, avoiding high revs. This way the engine warms up faster.

Unnecessary maneuvers

Avoid accelerating during stops at traffic lights or before switching off the engine. These actions, or "blipping" the throttle, are completely unnecessary and only increase fuel consumption and environmental pollution.

Choosing the gear

As soon as traffic and road conditions allow, shift to a higher gear. Using low gears to achieve better acceleration increases fuel consumption.

Likewise, using high gears inappropriately also increases fuel consumption, emissions and engine wear.

Maximum speed

Fuel consumption rises considerably with increasing speed. Maintain a steady speed as far as possible, avoiding unnecessary braking and acceleration, which only waste fuel and increase emissions.

Acceleration

Hard acceleration considerably affects fuel consumption and pollutant emissions.

It is better to accelerate gently and not to exceed the engine speed at which maximum torque is produced.
