Safe transport of children

~2min read

To increase protection, in the event of a collision all passengers should travel seated and use the appropriate restraint systems, which also applies to infants and children! This requirement applies under Directive 2003/20/EC in all member states of the European Union.

Children under 1.50 m in height and up to 12 years of age must be protected by special restraint systems and should be seated in the rear seats.

According to accident statistics, the rear seats offer greater safety for children.

Unlike adults, children have a proportionally larger and heavier head in relation to the rest of the body, while their muscles and bone structure are not yet fully developed. Therefore, restraint systems different from adult seat belts are required to hold them in place during a collision, to minimise the risk of injury in the event of an accident, sudden braking or emergency manoeuvres.

Children should sit safely and comfortably. Depending on the characteristics of the child seats used, it is recommended to keep children in rear-facing child seats for as long as possible (at least until 3-4 years of age), as this is the position that offers the best protection in a collision.

The most suitable restraint device for the child should be chosen based on the child's weight and build. There are various types of child restraint systems, which can be secured in the vehicle using seat belts or ISOFIX anchorages.

Always choose the restraint system most suitable for the child. To do this, read the instructions supplied with the child seat to make sure it is suitable for the child it is intended for.

In Europe, the parameters of child restraint systems are regulated by the ECE-R44 standard, which divides them into five weight groups:

All restraint devices must have approval data and a control mark on the plate permanently attached to the child seat, which must never be removed.

MOPAR Lineaccessori offers child seats for every weight group. It is recommended to use these seats, as they have been designed specifically for Fiat vehicles.
