Pinpoint Tests

PINPOINT TEST A: SUNROOF PANEL DOES NOT CLOSE WHILE VEHICLE IS MOVING

For schematics and connector information, refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 101.

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

When the vehicle is in motion, the BCM sends a PWM signal to the sunroof sliding glass panel motor, which then applies increased force when closing the sliding glass panel of the roof opening to reduce the possibility of reversal.

The sunroof motor must be initialized after performing repairs on any part of the sunroof system, or when the sunroof motor, glass, assembly or air deflector has been removed or replaced for any reason. REFER TO: Power Sunroof Initialization (501-17 Sunroof Panel, General Procedures).

PINPOINT TEST B: SUNROOF PANEL HAS EXCESSIVE WIND NOISE

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

During normal operation, the sunroof closes tightly and evenly against the roof opening, preventing wind noise. Any seal failure will cause wind noise.

No Properly INSTALL or REPLACE the air deflector.
REFER TO: Air Deflector (501-17 Sunroof Panel, Removal and Installation).
PINPOINT TEST C: SUNROOF PANEL LEAKS

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

When the sunroof glass is fully closed, it is flush with the roof panel. The sunroof primary seal provides insulation from adverse weather conditions such as rain and wind, preventing them from entering the cabin. A damaged, deformed, or improperly installed seal cannot seal the glass effectively.

PINPOINT TEST D: SUNROOF PANEL RATTLES

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

When the sunroof glass is fully closed, it is flush with the roof panel. All components must be properly secured. The sunroof system consists of many components that require specified torque values and correct installation to avoid NVH concerns. Over time, components may loosen or become damaged, fasteners may loosen, insulation material may wear, and foreign objects may accumulate in the sunroof frame. One or more of these conditions may cause rattling in the sunroof panel system.

PINPOINT TEST F: SUNROOF PANEL DOES NOT OPEN, CLOSE OR VENT

For schematics and connector information, refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 101.

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

The roof opening panel motor receives battery voltage constantly from the BJB fuse F37 (30A) and receives ignition voltage (delayed accessory) from the BCM fuse F6 (10A). The roof opening panel motor is grounded at G300 and the roof opening panel switch is grounded at G203. When the roof opening panel switch is pressed to open the roof, a ground signal is sent to the roof opening panel motor in the open circuit. When the roof opening panel switch is pulled to close the roof, a ground signal is sent to the roof opening panel motor in the closed circuit. When the roof opening panel tilt switch is pressed, a ground signal is sent to the roof opening panel motor in the tilt/vent switch circuit. The motor responds to these signals depending on the position of the glass panel and shield. A one-touch operation is performed by pressing either switch for less than 1 second. For more information on operation, REFER TO: Roof Opening Panel System Operation and Component Description (501-17 Roof Opening Panel, Description and Operation).

A communication link exists between the shield motor and the roof motor for rear and fourth communication only between the two motors, not for diagnostics. If the communication circuit between the roof motor and the shield motor is open or shorted, the roof motor will operate only to fully close the sunroof glass, and the shield motor will not operate at all.

PINPOINT TEST G: SUNSHADE DOES NOT OPEN AND CLOSE

For schematics and connector information, refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 101.

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

The shade motor is constantly supplied with battery voltage from fuse F37 (30 A) of the BJB, and receives ignition voltage (delayed accessory) from the BCM fuse F6 (10 A). The sunroof motor is grounded through circuit G300, and the sunroof switch is grounded through circuit G203. When the shade open switch is pressed, a signal is sent to the shade motor, the circuit to the sunshade is opened, and the shade opens. When the shade close switch is pressed, a signal is sent to the shade motor, the circuit to the sunshade is closed, and the shade closes.

If the K (communication) bus circuit between the sunroof motor and the shade motor is open or shorted, the sunroof motor will only close the sunroof fully once, then it cannot be used. Also, if the K bus circuit is open or shorted, the shade motor will not operate, but the sunroof will close to the fully closed position once.

If the shade is not opened at least to the front of the rear window (comfort stop), the glass will not open.

PINPOINT TEST H: ONE-TOUCH OPEN/CLOSE DOES NOT WORK

For schematics and connector information, refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 101.

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

All sunroof switches are one-touch, position-type switches that can operate with a single touch in either direction by pressing the switch for less than 1 second. For manual operation, simply press and hold the switch until the sunroof glass or sunshade is in the desired position, then release the switch. When the sunroof glass is in the fully closed position or between fully closed and full vent positions, the vent switch operates either manually or with one-touch control, similar to the sunroof and sunshade switches. If the sunshade is not opened at least to the front of the rear fixed glass (comfort stop) when the sunroof glass or vent switch is pressed, the sunshade will first open to the comfort stop position before the sunroof glass moves. The sunroof glass and sunshade will not move at the same time. One-touch operation of the sunroof or sunshade can be cancelled at any time by pressing any sunroof switch during operation. When the sunroof is open and the one-touch close switch is pressed, a signal is sent to the sunroof motor through the sunroof closed circuit, causing the sunroof to close with one-touch operation (it closes approximately 8 in. (200 mm) from the fully closed position only). One-touch open operation is similar to one-touch close, except when the sunshade is closed. When the sunroof motor is commanded to perform a one-touch open operation, the motors will communicate, the sunshade motor will perform a one-touch open operation, and then the sunroof motor will perform the requested one-touch open operation. Sunshade one-touch operation is similar to the sunroof, except that when the sunroof is open, the sunshade will only move to the comfort stop position. The sunroof does not open due to one-touch closing of the sunshade.
