ISO 9660 compliant format

~1min read

This is the most widely used international standard for the logical format of files and directories on a CD-ROM.

There are several levels of specification. At Level 1, file names must be in 8.3 format (no more than 8 characters in the name, no more than 3 characters in the extension, ".MP3") and must be written in capital letters.

Folder names cannot be longer than 8 characters. There cannot be more than 8 folder levels (directory tree).

Level 2 specifications allow long file names of up to 31 characters.

Each folder can have up to 8 levels.

For Joliet or Romeo extension formats, take the above limitations into account when configuring the CD writing software.
