Indicator and warning lights
The following indicator and warning lights come on when the ignition is switched on:
- ABS system
- Air Bag
- Braking system
- Engine coolant temperature
- Open door
- Engine
- Ice warning
- Charging
- Oil pressure
- Power steering system
- Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
If an indicator or warning light does not come on when the ignition is switched on, this indicates a fault. The system should be checked by a suitably trained mechanic.
ABS warning light
If it comes on while driving,
this indicates a fault. Normal braking (without ABS) will still be possible. The system should be checked by a suitably trained mechanic as soon as possible.
Airbag warning light
If it comes on while driving,
this indicates a fault. The system should be checked by a suitably trained mechanic.
Brake system warning light
Comes on when the
parking brake is applied.
WARNING
Gradually reduce speed and stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.
Use the brakes with care.
If the light comes on while driving, check that the parking brake is not applied. If the parking brake is released, the light indicates a fault. The system should be checked by a suitably trained mechanic immediately.
Coolant temperature warning light
CAUTION
When the light comes on, do not continue your journey, even if the coolant level is correct. The system should be checked by a suitably trained mechanic immediately.
If the light remains
on after starting the engine, or comes on while driving, this indicates a fault. Stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so and switch off the engine. Check the coolant level. See Checking the engine coolant.
Cruise control indicator
Comes on when a speed is set
using the cruise control system. See Using the cruise control system.
Turn signal
Flashes when the
turn signals are operating. If the light suddenly starts flashing rapidly, one of the turn signal bulbs has blown.
See Replacing a bulb.
Door ajar warning light
Comes on when the
ignition is switched on and stays on if any door, the bonnet or the tailgate is not properly closed.
