WARNINGS
- Always wear your seat belt and maintain an adequate distance from the steering wheel. The seat belt restrains the body, and protects you effectively only when properly fastened. See Sitting in the Correct Position (page 85).
- Two people must not use the same seat belt at the same time.
- Each belt must be routed through its correct guide.
- Fasten the seat belt so that it is neither loose nor twisted.
- Do not wear overly thick clothing. The seat belt must fit snugly against the body to provide the best possible protection.
- Position the upper belt so that it runs across the middle of your shoulder, and the lower belt so that it lies snugly across your hips.
The driver's and front passenger's seat belt retractors are fitted with seat belt pretensioners. Seat belt pretensioners have a lower deployment threshold than the airbags. In less severe impacts, only the seat belt pretensioners may be deployed.

WARNING
Seat belts subjected to excessive loads in an accident should be replaced, and their mountings checked by a suitably trained technician.
