DANGER

Do not use oils with additives or other engine treatments. Under certain conditions they may damage the engine, and damage is not covered by the warranty.

Empty oil containers must not be disposed of with household waste. Use only the designated containers for this type of waste.

When changing the oil, make sure the oil used is the same as the specified type and quantity. Avoid using unknown oil types or oil from containers that have already been opened.

Note: Oil consumption of new engines reaches normal levels after approximately 5,000 km.

Oil Level Check

Note: Check the level before starting the engine.

Note: Check that the oil level is between the MIN and MAX marks.

Note: The level measurement will not be accurate if this procedure is not followed.

  1. Make sure the vehicle is parked on level ground.
  2. If the engine has been running, switch it off and wait 15 minutes for the oil to drain back into the sump.
  3. Remove the dipstick and clean it with a clean lint-free cloth. Reinsert the dipstick and remove it again to check the oil level.
If the level is at the MIN mark, top up immediately.

Topping Up

DANGER

Only top up with the vehicle cold. If the engine is hot, wait 15 minutes for the engine to cool down.

Do not remove the filler cap while the engine is running.

Remove the filler cap.

DANGER

Do not top up beyond the MAX mark.

Note: Oil expands when hot. If the oil level is checked while still hot, it will exceed the MAX mark.

Note: Wipe up any spillage immediately with an absorbent cloth.

Top up with fluid that meets Ford specifications. See Technical Specifications.

Refit the filler cap. Turn it until a firm resistance is felt.

Severe Engine Operating Conditions

In severe operating conditions, the engine oil should be changed every 5,000 km or 3 months, whichever occurs first.

Severe operating conditions:
  • Frequent use of the vehicle on short trips (less than 5 km), during which the engine does not reach normal operating temperature.
  • Frequent use of the vehicle on dusty roads or in mountainous areas,
  • Use in heavy city traffic,
  • Use as a driving school, taxi, ambulance, military or similar vehicle,
  • Prolonged use with contaminated fuel.
Oil Consumption

For the first 5,000 km (running-in period) oil consumption is higher, so the oil level must be checked more frequently. The maximum acceptable consumption during this period is one litre. After running-in, the engine may consume up to one litre every 10,000 km. If consumption is higher, contact your authorised Ford Dealer.

Oil consumption also depends on driving style and vehicle use. Certain operating conditions, such as frequent driving at high speeds, may contribute to increased oil consumption.

OIL FILTER

The function of the oil filter is to trap harmful particles without blocking the flow of oil to vital parts. Using oil filters that do not meet Ford specifications may damage the engine.

Engine Cooling Fan

DANGER

Keep hands and clothing away from the engine cooling fan.

In some conditions the engine cooling fan keeps running for several minutes after the vehicle has been switched off.
