Temporary mobility kit
Your vehicle may not have a spare wheel or tire. In this case, the spare wheel or tire may be supplied in a temporary mobility kit, which can be used to repair a damaged tire only.
This kit is located in the spare wheel well.
General information
WARNINGS
- Depending on the type and extent of the damage, sealing may be only partial, or even impossible.
The temporary mobility kit can repair most punctures up to ¼ in (6 mm) in diameter to temporarily restore vehicle mobility.
When using the temporary mobility kit, you must observe the following rules:
- Drive carefully and avoid sudden movements or maneuvers, especially if the vehicle is loaded or towing a trailer.
- Drive to the nearest dealer or tire retailer, making sure not to drive more than 200 km.
- Do not exceed a maximum speed of 80 km/h.
- Keep the temporary mobility kit out of reach of children.
- Use the temporary mobility kit only when the ambient temperature is between -30 and 70 °C (-22 and 158 °F).
Using the Temporary Mobility Kit
WARNINGS
- Park the vehicle so that it does not obstruct traffic or put you at risk, then set up the warning triangle.
- Compressed air can have an explosive or propelling effect.
- Monitor the temporary mobility kit continuously while in use.
- The compressor must not run for more than 10 minutes.
- Use the temporary mobility kit only on the vehicle it was supplied with.
Before using the temporary mobility kit:
- Apply the parking brake.
- Do not try to remove a foreign object embedded in the tire, such as a nail or screw.
- Leave the engine running when using the temporary mobility kit. If your vehicle is in an enclosed or poorly ventilated area, switch off the engine when using the temporary mobility kit.
- You must replace the sealant bottle with a new one before its expiry date (printed on the top of the bottle).
- Inform all other vehicle occupants that a tire has been repaired using the temporary mobility kit.
Inflating the tire
WARNINGS
- Check the tire sidewall before using the temporary mobility kit. If it shows a crack, bulge or any similar damage, do not attempt to inflate the tire.
- Do not stand directly next to the tire while the compressor is running.
- Watch the tire sidewall. If a crack, bulge or any similar damage appears, switch off the compressor immediately and deflate the tire using pressure release valve B.
- The sealant contains natural latex. Avoid contact with skin or clothing. If this occurs, immediately rinse the affected part of the body with plenty of water and consult a doctor.
- If the inflation pressure does not reach the specified pressure within 10 minutes, the tire may be too damaged to tolerate a temporary repair. Do not drive the vehicle with this tire.
- The sealant bottle seal is pierced when the bottle is screwed onto the bottle holder.

- Protective cap.
- Pressure reducer.
- Hose.
- Pressure gauge.
- Power plug with cable.
- Compressor switch.
- Label.
- Sealant bottle.
- Open the cover of the temporary mobility kit.
- Peel off label G showing the maximum permitted speed of 80 km/h from the kit casing and stick it on the instrument panel, within the driver's field of vision. Make sure the label does not cover anything important.
- Remove hose C and the power plug with cable E from the temporary mobility kit.
- Screw hose C onto the sealant bottle.
- Remove the valve cap from the damaged tyre.
- Remove protective cap A from the sealant bottle hose and firmly screw the hose onto the valve of the damaged tyre.
- Make sure compressor switch F is in position 0.
- Connect power plug E to the auxiliary power point. See Auxiliary power points (page 132).
- Start the engine.
- Set compressor switch F to position 1.
- After at least two minutes, move compressor switch F to position 0 and unscrew hose C from the sealant bottle. Unscrew the sealant bottle hose from the tyre valve.
- Screw hose C onto the tyre valve and set compressor switch F to position 1.
- Inflate the tyre for a maximum of 10 minutes or until the specified inflation pressure is reached. Set compressor switch F to position 0 and check the current inflation pressure with pressure gauge D. Unscrew hose C from the tyre valve.
- Remove power plug E from the auxiliary power point.
- Make sure you store the temporary mobility kit, the bottle cover and the orange cap in a safe place that is easily accessible from your vehicle. The temporary mobility kit will be needed again to check the tyre pressures.
- Start off immediately and drive for approximately ten kilometres (6 miles) so that the sealant can seal the damaged area.
Note: when the sealant is pumped through the tyre valve, the pressure may rise to 87 psi (6 bar), but it drops again after approximately 30 seconds.
WARNING
- If you notice significant vibrations, erratic steering or noises while driving, reduce your speed and carefully drive the vehicle to a safe place to stop. Check the tyre and its pressure again. If the inflation pressure is below the specified pressure or if the tyre shows cracks, bulges or any similar damage, do not drive on that tyre any further.
Checking the tyre inflation pressure
WARNING
Before driving, make sure the tyre is inflated to the specified pressure. See Tyre pressures (page 271). Monitor the inflation pressure until the tyre is replaced.
- Stop your vehicle after driving approximately 6 miles (10 kilometres). Check and, if necessary, correct the pressure of the damaged tyre.
- Fit the temporary mobility kit and check the pressure shown on pressure gauge D.
- If the pressure of the tyre filled with sealant is higher than the specified inflation pressure, adjust it to the specified pressure. See Tyre pressures (page 271).
- Repeat the inflation procedure to inflate the tyre.
- Check the tyre pressure shown on pressure gauge D again. If the tyre pressure is too high, release air from the tyre to the specified pressure using pressure reducer B.
- If the tyre pressure is lower than the specified inflation pressure, repeat steps 13 to 16 and steps 1 to 5 (Checking the tyre inflation pressure).
- After inflating the tyre to the correct pressure, set compressor switch F to position 0, remove power plug E from the auxiliary power point, unscrew the hose from the sealant bottle, fit the valve cap and refit protective cap A.
- Drive to the nearest specialist to have the damaged tyre replaced. Inform the specialist that the tyre contains sealant before they separate the tyre from the wheel. Replace the sealant bottle as soon as it has been used once.
Note: the temporary mobility kit provides emergency repairs only. Regulations concerning tyre repair after using the temporary mobility kit may vary from country to country.
You must seek advice from a tyre specialist.
Empty sealant bottles can be disposed of with normal household waste. Return any remaining sealant to an authorised dealer or dispose of it in accordance with local waste disposal regulations.
