5-speed manual transmission (MT)
The 4-cylinder models are equipped with either a 5-speed manual transmission (MT) or a 4-speed automatic transmission (AT). All V6 models are equipped with AT.
The manual transmissions used on the Honda Accord models covered in this Manual have a 5-speed fully synchronized design, serial number P2A8. The transmission number is stamped on the machined pad on the side of the case.
Due to the complexity of the MT design, the unavailability of the necessary replacement internal components, and the need for special equipment, the authors of this Manual do not recommend that owners perform major transmission repairs themselves. Repairing the transmission at an authorized service facility is a fairly expensive operation, so alternatives such as replacing the faulty unit with a new or remanufactured one should be considered. Useful information on transmission repair and replacement can be obtained at Honda dealerships. Regardless of the chosen method (repair or replacement), removing the transmission from the vehicle yourself will significantly reduce costs.
