Transaxle Installation
PROCEDURE
1. If removed, install the clutch components in place (refer to Chapter Clutch and Drive Shafts).
2. Secure the transmission to the jack as during removal, carefully move it under the vehicle and raise it into its normal position behind the engine. Carefully engage the input shaft with the splines of the clutch disc hub, making sure the guide pins enter the matching holes in the engine mating surface. Do not use force. If the input shaft does not enter the clutch hub, adjust the angle of the transmission and turn the shaft slightly until the splines align correctly.
3. Install the lower transmission-to-engine bolts and the rear mount bracket bolts. Tighten the fasteners to the specified torque.
4. Install the threaded stud and the transmission mount with its bracket. Tighten the mount bracket-to-body bolts without fully tightening them, install the through bolt, then tighten the three nuts securing the bracket to the transmission case. Finally, tighten the mount through bolt to the specified torque (refer to Engine Specifications).
5. Install the subframe in place, making sure the marks made during removal are aligned. Tighten the fasteners to the specified torque. Secure the power steering hydraulic line in the clips on the subframe.
6. Install the engine support bracket assembly and the intake manifold mounting bracket.
7. Install the intermediate and drive shafts. Be sure to replace the drive shaft retaining clips (refer to Chapter Clutch and Drive Shafts).
8. Connect the stabilizer links to the lower control arms, install the tie rods, then connect the lower control arms to the steering knuckles (refer to Chapter Suspension and Steering).
9. Install the engine undershield and front wheels, then lower the vehicle to the ground.
10. Continue installation in the reverse order of removal of the corresponding components.
11. Fill the transmission with the required amount of the specified transmission oil (refer to Chapter Routine Maintenance).
12. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system (refer to Chapter Clutch and Drive Shafts) and check the clutch assembly for proper operation.
13. Perform a road test to check the transmission operation. Inspect the engine and transmission for signs of fluid leaks.
14. If vibration occurs, loosen and retighten the engine mount fasteners (refer to Chapter Engine).
15. Perform a front wheel alignment.
