Recommendations for Reducing Fuel Consumption
The vehicle must be serviced regularly in accordance with the established maintenance schedule. See the section "Periodic Maintenance Performed by the Vehicle Owner" on page 356 of this Manual.
For example, tire pressure below the specified level increases rolling resistance and fuel consumption.
When operating the vehicle in winter, snow packs into the underbody cavities, which increases vehicle weight and rolling resistance. Regular washing will reduce fuel consumption and also reduce the likelihood of body corrosion.
Driving at a moderate speed is recommended. Hard acceleration, sharp cornering and braking increase fuel consumption.
Always shift to the highest gear that allows the engine to operate normally.
Try to maintain a constant speed. Each braking and subsequent acceleration consumes additional fuel.
Whenever possible, use the cruise control system if your vehicle is equipped with one.
To reduce the number of cold engine starts, combine several short trips into one longer trip whenever possible.
Operating the air conditioner places an additional load on the engine and increases fuel consumption. In moderate outside temperatures, use ventilation with the air conditioner off.
