Replacing the Luggage Compartment Lamp Bulb

Battery

~3min read

Check the condition and state of charge of the battery monthly using the built-in color indicator. The label on the battery provides the information needed to interpret the indicator color.

Inspect the battery for signs of corrosion in the form of white or yellowish powder on the battery posts and cable terminals. To remove oxidation products, moisten the battery posts and terminals with a water and baking soda solution.

The reaction is accompanied by bubbling and the solution changing color to brown.

When the reaction stops, rinse the posts and terminals with clean water. Wipe the battery with a cloth or paper towel. To protect the posts and terminals from corrosion, apply grease to them.

If additional battery service is required, contact your dealer or a qualified specialist.

Before connecting a battery charger to the battery, disconnect both cable terminals from the posts, otherwise the vehicle's electrical equipment may be damaged. Disconnect the negative (–) terminal first and connect it last.

WARNING

Even when in good condition and under normal operation, the battery releases explosive hydrogen gas. Therefore, sparks or an open flame near the battery may cause an explosion of considerable force, resulting in serious injury and burns.

Do not bring sparking objects, open flames or lit cigarettes near the battery.

When performing battery maintenance yourself, wear protective clothing and safety glasses or a clear face shield. However, it is recommended that battery service be performed by specialists at a service station.

ПРЕДОСТЕРЕЖЕНИЕ
WARNING

The battery contains a sulfuric acid solution (electrolyte), which is highly corrosive and very poisonous.

If electrolyte gets into the eyes or onto exposed skin, you may suffer severe chemical burns to the mucous membranes or skin.

When working with the battery, always wear safety glasses and protective clothing.

Electrolyte ingestion into the gastrointestinal tract may cause fatal poisoning if emergency measures are not taken to save the injured person.

Emergency first aid measures

Electrolyte in the eyes — Flush the eyes with water from a cup or other suitable container for at least 15 minutes. Do not use a strong water jet, as it may injure the eyes.

Seek medical attention immediately.

Electrolyte on the skin — Remove clothing that has been contaminated with electrolyte. Flush the acid-affected area of skin thoroughly with plenty of water. Seek medical attention immediately.

Electrolyte swallowed — Drink water or milk.

Seek medical attention immediately.

For vehicles with right-hand steering wheel only

If the battery is discharged or disconnected, the speedometer reverts to its default unit of measurement (mph or km/h, depending on the vehicle version) (see page 85).

Vehicles with i-SHIFT transmission

If the battery is discharged or disconnected, you must initialize the transmission neutral position. Move the shift lever to the neutral position and press the brake pedal. Hold the brake pedal depressed for about 3 seconds until the N symbol appears on the shift position indicator. Then turn the ignition key to the N (II) position.
