Cooling System
Checking Coolant Specific Gravity
In this manual: Cooling System
~1min read
PROCEDURE

1. Using a hydrometer, measure the specific gravity of the coolant.
2. Measure the coolant temperature and, based on the temperature, determine the antifreeze concentration in the coolant.
Relationship between antifreeze concentration in coolant and specific gravity

Example
Safe operating temperature –15 °C at a specific gravity of 1.058 and coolant temperature 20 °C
If the antifreeze concentration is below 30%, the corrosion protection of the coolant is reduced. If the concentration is above 60%, the freezing protection of the coolant is reduced.
Recommended coolant
Antifreeze Antifreeze concentration in coolant
Ethylene glycol 50%
