Brake System
The vehicle is equipped with a hydraulically operated service brake system.
The system operates as follows:
– the brake pedal is connected to the master cylinder;
– when the pedal is depressed, pressurized fluid from the master cylinder is delivered through metal lines and flexible hoses to the front and rear brake assemblies;
– wheel cylinders are hydraulic actuators that convert the fluid pressure generated in the master cylinder into movement of the brake components;
– the front and rear brake caliper pistons move and, through friction against the brake discs and drums, provide the required vehicle deceleration;
– when the brake pedal is released, system pressure decreases. The brake pads and pistons return to the neutral or initial position and braking stops.
When the brake fluid level drops, the fluid level sensor in the master cylinder turns on the warning lamp in the instrument cluster. If the warning lamp is on, first check that the parking brake is released, since the lamp indicates a low fluid level and an applied parking brake.
