Do not disassemble the Birfield CV joint.
Use only the specified grease to lubricate the CV joints.
Always install new clamps when assembling the CV joint.

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the clamps and slide the boot off the ball-type CV joint of the drive shaft.

Be careful not to damage the boot.

2. Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring. Then, using a hammer and a brass rod, drive the tripod joint roller bearing off the drive shaft.

When removing the tripod joint roller bearing from the drive shaft, do not place the brass rod on the rollers.

3. Clean the tripod joint roller bearing.
4. Remove the clamps and slide the boots off the ball-type CV joint and the Birfield CV joint.

If the boot will be reused, wrap the splines of the drive shaft with adhesive tape to protect the boot before removing it.
