Steep Slope

This warning message appears when the vehicle is moving slowly on a slope and the vehicle detects that the brake pedal is not depressed. When driving uphill or on steep grades:

  • To hold the vehicle on a slope, use the foot brake or parking brake.
  • When driving with frequent stops on a slope, stop at a distance ahead before moving the vehicle forward. Then hold the vehicle on the slope with the foot brake.
  • If the vehicle is held on a slope using the accelerator pedal, or moved slowly with the brake pedal released, the clutch and transmission may overheat, which may cause damage. At this time, a warning message appears on the LCD display.
  • If the LCD display warning is active, the foot brake must be applied.
  • Ignoring warnings may cause damage to the transmission.

High Transmission Temperature

  • Under certain conditions, such as repeated starts and stops on steep slopes, sudden takeoff or acceleration, or other severe driving conditions, the transmission clutch temperature will increase excessively. Eventually the transmission clutch may overheat.
  • If the transmission overheats, the fail-safe mode activates and the gear position indicator on the instrument cluster flashes with a chime. At this time, the warning message "Transmission Overheated! Safe Stop" will appear on the LCD, and driving may not be smooth.
  • In this case, stop the vehicle in a safe place with the engine running, depress the brake pedal, and shift the vehicle into P (Park) with the engine running. Allow the transmission to cool.
  • If you ignore this warning, driving conditions may deteriorate. Harsh shifting, frequent shifting, or jerking may occur. To return to normal driving conditions, stop the vehicle and apply the parking brake or shift into P (Park). Then allow the transmission to cool for several minutes with the engine running before moving off.
  • If possible, drive the vehicle smoothly.

Transmission Overheated

  • If the vehicle continues to be driven and the clutch temperature reaches the maximum temperature limit, the warning "Transmission Hot! Park with Engine Running" will be displayed. When this occurs, the clutch is disengaged until the clutch cools to normal temperature.
  • The warning will display the time remaining for the transmission to cool down.
  • In this case, stop the vehicle in a safe place with the engine running, depress the brake pedal, and shift the vehicle into P (Park) with the engine running for a specified period of time and allow the transmission to cool.
  • When the message "Transmission Cooled. Continue Driving" appears, you may continue driving the vehicle.
  • If possible, drive the vehicle smoothly.

If any of the warning messages on the LCD continues to flash, for your safety, contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer and have the system inspected.
