Driver Airbag Module (DAB) and Clock Spring Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

  • Driver Airbag (DAB): The DAB is installed in the steering wheel and is electrically connected to the SRSCM through the clock spring. It deploys during a frontal impact to protect the driver.
  • Clock Spring: The clock spring transmits the trigger signal generated by the sensors installed at the front and right/left sides of the vehicle to the inflator (gas generator) of the driver airbag module through internal wiring. It also transmits the trigger signal from the steering wheel remote control switch and horn switch to the corresponding systems through internal wiring.
  • Never attempt to measure the resistance of the airbag module circuit (squib), even if you use the specified tester. If the circuit resistance is measured with a tester, accidental airbag deployment will result in serious injury.
