Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Component Information
PRECAUTIONS FOR THE VEHICLE OWNER
Incorrect sequence of maintenance and repair operations may cause unintended deployment of the airbags during SRS service, and may result in injury to the service personnel.
In addition, if errors are made during SRS service, the SRS may fail to function properly in the event of a collision. Before starting any SRS work (including removal or installation of parts, inspection, or replacement), service personnel must carefully review the following safety precautions and follow the correct procedure described in this manual.
1. Begin maintenance and repair work approximately 30 seconds after turning the ignition switch to the "LOCK" position and disconnecting the negative battery cable. (The SRS is equipped with a backup power supply. If work is started within 30 seconds after disconnecting the negative battery cable, the airbags may deploy.) After disconnecting the negative battery cable, the memory of some electronic devices (clock, audio system, etc.) will be erased. Therefore, before starting work, record the main audio system settings. After completing work, restore the main audio system settings and set the clock.
2. Because SRS malfunction symptoms are difficult to detect, diagnostic trouble codes are the primary source of information when troubleshooting the system. When troubleshooting the SRS, always check the diagnostic trouble codes before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
3. Never install SRS components from another vehicle. When replacing components, use only new genuine parts.
4. Never attempt to disassemble the airbag module, seat belt pretensioner, clock spring, or SRS wiring harness, as they cannot be repaired or reused.
5. If any SRS component (SRS control unit, airbag module) has been dropped or struck by other objects, or if cracks, dents, or other defects are found in the housing, bracket, or connector, replace that component with a new one.
6. After completing work on the SRS, perform the SRS indicator check (SRS SRI check).

1. Never place a jack support under the trailing arm or rear suspension assembly.
2. To prevent scoring of the subframe, place a piece of rag under the jack pad (to prevent corrosion caused by damage to the paint coating). 3. Never support the vehicle only with a jack. Always install safety stands.
4. Never attempt to lift the vehicle so that both wheels on one side are off the ground by placing the jack midway between the front and rear wheels. This may cause damage to the body.
