Cylinder Head - Assembly

1. Thoroughly clean all parts before assembly.

2. Apply engine oil to all sliding and rotating parts.

1. Install the valve spring seats.

Using the special service tool (valve stem oil seal installer 09222-22001), lightly tap the valve stem oil seal into place.

• Do not reuse valve stem oil seals.

• Incorrect installation of the valve stem oil seal may cause oil leakage through the valve guide.

2. Apply engine oil to the valve stem.

Insert the valve into the valve guide. Do not force the valve stem through the oil seal. After installing the valve, check that it moves smoothly.

3. Install the valve spring so that the painted coil is near the spring retainer (top), and then install the valve spring retainer.

4. Using the special service tools (valve spring compressor 0922228000 and adapter 09222-28100), compress the valve spring and install the valve keepers. Before removing the special tools, check that the keepers are seated securely.

When compressing the valve spring, make sure the spring retainer does not contact the valve stem oil seal.

5. Clean the gasket mating surfaces on the cylinder head and the cylinder block.

6. Check the identification marks on the cylinder head gasket against the specifications.

7. Install the cylinder head gasket on the cylinder block with the identification mark facing up (toward the cylinder head).

8. Tighten the cylinder head bolts to the specified torque in the sequence shown in the illustration.

Tightening torque Cylinder head bolts:

35 N·m + 75° + loosen all bolts + 35 N·m + 75°
