Cruise Control Operation
ESC On Condition
When the ignition switch is in the ON position, the ESC and ESC OFF indicators come on for approximately three seconds. After both lights go off, ESC is on.
During Operation

When ESC is operating, the ESC indicator flashes:
- When you apply the brake under conditions that may cause the wheels to lock, you may hear sounds from the brakes or feel a corresponding sensation in the brake pedal. This is normal and means that your ESC is active.
- When ESC is operating, the engine may not respond to the accelerator pedal. This occurs under normal conditions.
- If cruise control was in use when ESC is activated, cruise control is automatically canceled. Cruise control can be resumed when road conditions allow. Refer to "Cruise Control System" later in this chapter. (if equipped)
- When driving out of mud or on a slippery road, engine RPM (revolutions per minute) may not increase even if you press the accelerator pedal fully. This is to maintain stability and traction of the vehicle and does not indicate a problem.
ESC OFF Condition
To cancel ESC operation:
• Condition 1
Briefly press the ESC OFF button. The ESC OFF indicator and the message "Traction Control Off" will illuminate. In this condition, the traction control function of ESC (engine control) is disabled, but the brake control function of ESC (brake control) still operates.
• Condition 2
Press and hold the ESC OFF button continuously for more than 3 seconds. The ESC OFF indicator and the message "Traction and Stability Control Off" will illuminate and a warning chime will sound. In this condition, both the ESC traction control function (engine control) and the ESC brake control function (brake control) are disabled.
If the ignition switch is in the LOCK/OFF position when ESC is off, ESC remains off. After restarting the engine, ESC will automatically turn on again.
