Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery sensor connector (A), the battery negative terminal (B) and the battery positive terminal (C).
  2. Disconnect the ventilation hose (A) from the battery vent.
  3. Remove the mounting bracket (A), then remove the battery (B).

Installation

  1. Install in the reverse order of removal. Battery (-) terminal installation: 4.0 - 6 N·m. Battery (+) terminal installation: 7.8 - 9.8 N·m. Battery mounting bracket and insulation pad installation: 8.8 - 13.7 N·m.
    • When installing the battery, properly secure the mounting bracket to the tray.
[AGM Battery Charging]
Keep the battery temperature at approximately 68°F ~ 86°F (20°C ~ 30°C) during battery charging.
IU or WU Charging Method: Optimized charging voltage for IU or WU: 14.7 V (at 20 °C - 30 °C) for approximately 24 hours. Minimum charging voltage at 20 °C: 14.4 V. Maximum charging voltage at 20 °C: 14.8 V. Recommended charging current is 10% of capacity (example: 60 Ah: 100% = 6.0 A charging current).
Do not charge an AGM battery at a voltage above 15.2 V. Do not use rapid charging procedures.
If the battery sensor is connected while charging an AGM battery, the sensor may misinterpret the battery condition and set a fault code. After charging is complete, let the battery stand for more than 10 hours at normal temperature to stabilize the battery.

Cleaning

  1. Make sure the ignition switch and all accessories are in the OFF position.
  2. Remove the battery from the vehicle. (Refer to Charging System - "Battery")
Carefully check the battery case for cracks or electrolyte leakage, and take special care when removing the battery to prevent skin contact with electrolyte. Wear tight-fitting rubber gloves (not household gloves) when removing the battery.
  3. Inspect the battery compartment for damage caused by electrolyte leakage. If acid damage is present, clean the area with a solution of clean warm water and baking soda. Scrub the area with a stiff brush and wipe with a rag soaked in baking soda solution.
  4. Clean the top of the battery with the same solution described above.
  5. Inspect the battery case and cover for cracks. If cracks are found, the battery must be replaced.
  6. Clean the battery terminals with a suitable tool.
  7. Clean the inside surfaces of the battery terminal clamps using a suitable battery terminal cleaning tool. Replace damaged or worn cables and broken terminal clamps.
  8. Install the battery in the vehicle.
  9. Connect the cable terminals to the battery post, making sure the tops of the terminals are flush with the tops of the posts.
  10. Tighten the terminal nuts securely.
  11. After tightening, apply light mineral grease to all connections.
Explosive gas is generated under the cap of each cell while batteries are charging. Do not smoke near batteries that are being charged or have recently been charged. Do not break a live circuit at the terminals of batteries being charged. Breaking the circuit causes a spark. Keep open flames away from the battery.

Vehicle Parasitic Current Draw Inspection

  1. Turn off all electrical devices, then turn the ignition off.
  2. Close all doors except the hood, then lock all doors.
    1. Disconnect the hood switch connector.
    2. Close the liftgate.
    3. Close the doors or remove the door switches.
  3. Wait several minutes until the vehicle electrical systems go into sleep mode.
    • For an accurate measurement of the vehicle parasitic current, all electrical systems must go into sleep mode (at least one hour, or up to one day). However, an approximate vehicle parasitic current can be measured after 10 to 20 minutes.
  4. Connect the ammeter in series between the battery negative (-) terminal and the ground cable, then slowly disconnect the ground cable from the battery negative (-) terminal.
    • Be careful that the ammeter lead wires do not come off the battery negative (-) terminal and the ground cable, to prevent the battery from discharging. If the battery is discharged, connect the battery cable, then start the engine or turn the ignition on for more than 10 seconds. Repeat the procedure from step 1. To prevent battery discharge during inspection,
    1. Connect the jumper cable between the battery negative (-) terminal and the ground cable.
    2. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery negative (-) terminal.
    3. Connect the ammeter between the battery negative (-) terminal and the ground cable.
    4. After disconnecting the jumper cable, read the ammeter current value.
  5. Read the ammeter current value.
    A. If the parasitic current exceeds the limit value, search for the abnormal circuit by removing fuses one at a time and checking the parasitic current.
    B. Reconnect the fuse of the suspected parasitic current draw circuit. Find the suspect device by removing the components connected to the circuit one at a time until the parasitic draw drops below the specified limit.

Specified limit (after 10 to 20 min.): Below 50 mA
