Snow chains
Because the sidewalls of radial tires are thinner than those of other types of tires, they may be damaged by fitting certain types of snow chains. Therefore, the use of snow tires instead of chains is recommended. Do not fit snow chains on vehicles equipped with aluminum wheels; if it is necessary to use cable-type snow chains. If it is necessary to use snow chains, it is recommended to use genuine HYUNDAI parts and to install the chain after reviewing the instructions supplied with the snow chains.
Vehicle damage caused by improper use of snow chains is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
WARNING The use of chains may adversely affect the handling of the vehicle: - Do not exceed 30 km/h or the speed limit recommended by the chain manufacturer, whichever is lower. - Drive carefully and avoid bumps, sharp curves or other road surface hazards, which may cause the vehicle to bounce. - Avoid sharp curves or braking that locks the wheels.NOTE
- Install snow chains on the front wheels only. Note that fitting snow chains provides greater driving force, but does not prevent lateral skidding.
- Do not install studded tires without first checking local and municipal regulations for possible restrictions on their use.
Installing the chains
When installing the chains, follow the chain manufacturer's instructions and fit them as tightly as possible. Drive slowly (below 30 km/h) with the chains installed. If you hear the chains contacting the body or frame, stop and retighten them. If they still make contact, reduce speed until they no longer do. Remove the snow chains as soon as you drive on cleared roads.
When fitting snow chains, park the vehicle on level ground away from traffic. Turn on the hazard warning lights (four-way flashers) and place the warning triangle behind the vehicle, if available. Always place the vehicle in P (Park), apply the parking brake and stop the engine before fitting the chains.
NOTICE When using snow chains: - Chains of incorrect size or improperly installed may damage the vehicle's brake lines, suspension, body and wheels. - Use an SAE class "S" or metal chain. - If you hear noise caused by the chain contacting the body, retighten the chain to prevent contact with the vehicle's body structure. - To prevent damage to the structure, retighten the chains after driving 0.5~1.0 km (0.3~0.6 miles). - Do not fit snow chains on vehicles equipped with aluminum wheels. If it is necessary to use cable-type snow chains. - Use metal chains less than 15 mm (0.59 in) wide to prevent damage to the chain links.Test yourself
