Vehicle weight
Two labels on the driver's door pillar show the weight the vehicle can carry: the tire and loading information label and the certification label.
Before loading the vehicle, become familiar with the following terms to determine the vehicle weight ranges, based on the vehicle specifications and certification:
Base Curb Weight
Vehicle weight including a full fuel tank and all standard equipment.
Does not include passengers, cargo or optional equipment.
Vehicle Curb Weight
Weight of the vehicle as delivered by the dealer, plus any equipment added after purchase.
Cargo Weight
This measurement is the weight added to the base curb weight, including cargo and optional equipment.
GAW (Gross Axle Weight)
Total weight placed on each axle (front and rear), including the vehicle curb weight and the payload.
GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating)
Maximum permitted weight that can be carried by a single axle (front or rear).
These figures are shown on the certification label. The total load on each axle must never exceed this value.
GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight)
Base curb weight plus the actual cargo weight plus passengers.
GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating)
Maximum permitted weight of the fully loaded vehicle (including all options, equipment, passengers and cargo). This value is shown on the certification label on the driver's door sill.
Overload
WARNING The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) and the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) are shown on the certification label attached to the driver's or passenger's door pillar. Exceeding these values may cause accidents or damage to the vehicle. You can calculate the load weight by weighing the items and passengers before they enter the vehicle. Be careful not to overload it.Test yourself
