Trailer towing
If you plan to use a trailer with your vehicle, first check with your national motor vehicle authority to determine the legal requirements. Since laws vary, the requirements for towing trailers, machinery or other types of equipment may differ. Ask an authorized HYUNDAI dealer for more details before using a trailer.
Keep in mind that towing a trailer is different from simply driving a vehicle. It affects handling, braking distance and fuel consumption.
Correct and safe towing requires the right equipment and its correct use.
Vehicle damage caused by improper towing of trailers is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
This section contains many important tips and safety rules, proven over time. Many of them are important for the safety of the driver and passengers. Read this section carefully before using a trailer.
WARNING Observe the following precautions: - If proper equipment is not used and/or the vehicle is driven improperly, you may lose control of the vehicle while towing a trailer. For example, if the trailer is too heavy, the brakes may not work properly or may not work at all. The driver and passengers may be seriously or fatally injured. Use a trailer only after you have followed all the steps in this section. - Before using a trailer, make sure its weight, the Gross Combined Weight (GCW), the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), the Gross Axle Weight (GAW) and the trailer tongue load are within the limits.NOTE - For Europe
- The maximum technically permissible load on the rear axle(s) may be exceeded by no more than 15%, while the maximum technically permissible vehicle mass may be exceeded by no more than 10% or 100 kg (220.4 lbs), whichever is lower. In this case, do not exceed 100 km/h for an M1 category vehicle or 80 km/h for an N1 category vehicle.
- When an M1 category vehicle is towing, the additional load on the trailer coupling may cause the maximum tire load rating to be exceeded, but by no more than 15%. In this case, do not exceed 100 km/h and increase the tire inflation pressure by at least.
NOTICE Improper use of a trailer can damage the vehicle and cause costly repairs not covered by the warranty. To use a trailer correctly, follow the warnings contained in this section.Test yourself
