Maintenance when towing a trailer

~1min read

The vehicle requires more frequent maintenance when towing a trailer on a regular basis. Important items to watch are engine oil, automatic transmission fluid, axle lubricant, and cooling system fluid. Brake condition is another important item to check at regular intervals.

If you are towing a trailer, it is helpful to review these sections before starting your trip. Do not forget to maintain the trailer and the hitch. Follow the maintenance schedule included with the trailer and check it regularly. It is preferable to carry out the check at the start of each day of driving. It is of critical importance that the hitch nuts and bolts are tight.

NOTICE To avoid damage to the vehicle: - Due to increased load while using a trailer, overheating may occur on hot days or when driving uphill. If the coolant temperature gauge indicates overheating, turn off the air conditioning and stop the vehicle in a safe place to allow the engine to cool. - While towing, check the automatic transmission fluid more frequently. - If the vehicle is not equipped with air conditioning, install a fan to improve engine performance when towing a trailer.
