Ignition Switch Positions
LOCK
The steering wheel locks to help prevent theft. The ignition key can only be removed in the LOCK position.
When turning the switch to LOCK, push the key in slightly to the ACC position and then turn it toward the LOCK position.
ACC (Accessory)
The steering wheel is unlocked and the electrical accessories are operational.
NOTE
If you have difficulty turning the ignition switch to ACC, try turning the key while moving the steering wheel left and right to release the tension.
ON
Before starting the engine, this position allows you to check that the warning lights work. It is the normal operating position when the engine is started.
Do not leave the ignition switch in ON when the engine is not running, to avoid discharging the battery.
START
Turn the ignition key to START to start the engine. The switch returns to the ON position when the key is released.
WARNING - Ignition Switch - Never turn the switch to LOCK or ACC while the vehicle is moving, except in an emergency. This turns off the engine and cuts power to the brakes and steering wheel. This would result in loss of steering control and loss of brake power assist, which may lead to an accident. - Before leaving the driver's seat, always make sure the gear shift lever is in first gear for a manual transmission or in P (Park) for an automatic transmission, fully apply the parking brake, and turn the ignition switch to LOCK. Failure to observe these precautions may cause the vehicle to move unexpectedly. - Never reach for the ignition switch or other controls through the steering wheel while the vehicle is moving. Placing a hand or arm in this area may cause loss of vehicle control, an accident, and serious injury or death.Test yourself
