Seat Belt Restraint System

~2min read
WARNING - For maximum protection from the restraint system, seat belts must be worn at all times when the vehicle is in motion. - The seat belt is most effective when the seatback is in the upright position. - Children under 12 years of age must always be properly secured in the rear seat. Never allow children to ride in the front passenger seat. If a child over 12 years of age must sit in the front seat, the belt must be fastened and the seat must be moved to the rearmost position possible. - Never wear the seat belt under the arm or behind the back. An improperly fastened belt can cause serious injury in a crash. The belt must be positioned over the shoulder, at the middle of the collarbone. - Avoid wearing the belt twisted. A twisted seat belt will not provide adequate protection in a crash. Make sure the belt webbing is flat and not twisted. - Each belt must be used by one occupant only. Do not travel with a child on your lap held by the passenger's own seat belt, as this can be dangerous. - Take care not to damage the belt webbing or components. If they are damaged, replace them. WARNING Damaged seat belts and belt assemblies will not function properly. Always replace: - Contaminated or damaged belt webbing. - Damaged hardware. - The entire seat belt assembly if it was loaded in a crash, even if the damage to the belt or assembly is not visible. WARNING The user must not make additions or modifications to the belt that could prevent the appropriate devices from adjusting to remove slack.
