Checking the Coolant Level
WARNING
When removing the radiator cap
- Do not attempt to remove the radiator cap while the engine is running or still hot. You may damage the cooling system and engine, and seriously injure yourself from hot coolant or escaping steam.
- Stop the engine and wait until it cools down. Be very careful when removing the radiator cap. Wrap the cap with a thick towel and carefully turn it counterclockwise to the first stop. Wait until all pressure has been released from the cooling system. Once all pressure has been released, press down on the cap using a thick towel and continue turning it counterclockwise to remove it.
- Even if the engine is off, do not remove the radiator cap or drain plug when the engine and radiator are hot. Hot coolant and steam may be under pressure and can cause serious injury.
WARNING

The electric cooling fan is controlled by engine coolant temperature, refrigerant pressure and vehicle speed. It may run even when the engine is off. Take special care not to be injured when working near the rotating fan blades. The electric fan will stop automatically when the engine temperature has dropped sufficiently. This is normal.

Inspect the condition and connections of all cooling system and heater hoses. Replace any hoses that are twisted, cracked or deteriorated.
With the engine cold, the coolant level should be between the F (MAX) and L (MIN) marks on the side of the coolant reservoir.
If the coolant level is low, add the required amount of antifreeze coolant to protect against freezing and corrosion. Bring the level up to the F (MAX) mark, but do not overfill.
If you need to add coolant frequently, we recommend having the vehicle's system inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
