Firmly depress the brake pedal.

Depress the parking brake pedal and it will release automatically.

If the parking brake does not release or does not fully release, have the vehicle checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

WARNING

  • Whenever you leave the vehicle or park, always come to a complete stop and keep depressing the brake pedal. Move the shift lever to the P (Park) position, then apply the parking brake and press the engine Start/Stop button to the OFF position. Vehicles with the parking brake not fully applied risk unintended movement and injury to yourself or others.
  • NEVER allow anyone who is not familiar with the vehicle to touch the parking brake. Unintentional release of the parking brake may result in serious injury.
  • Release the parking brake only when you are seated in the vehicle with your foot firmly on the brake pedal.

NOTICE

  • Do not depress the accelerator pedal with the parking brake applied. If you depress the accelerator pedal with the parking brake applied, a warning sound will be heard. Damage to the parking brake may occur.
  • Driving with the parking brake applied may overheat the brake system and cause premature wear or damage to brake system components. Make sure the parking brake is released and the brake system warning light is off before driving.

Check the parking brake indicator by pressing the engine Start/Stop button to the ON (vehicle ready ( Hyundai Ioniq. Parking Brake ) mode) position.

This indicator illuminates when the parking brake is applied with the engine running or the Start/Stop button in the START or ON position.

Before driving, make sure the parking brake is released and the brake system warning light is off.

If the parking brake indicator remains illuminated after the parking brake is released while the vehicle is in the ready ( Hyundai Ioniq. Parking Brake ) mode, there may be a malfunction in the brake system. Immediate attention is required.

If possible, stop driving the vehicle immediately. If this is not possible, exercise extreme caution when operating the vehicle and continue driving only until you reach a safe location.
